In a landmark move, the Onitsha-North Local Government Area of Anambra State has commissioned 100 environmental agents to improve cleanliness and promote environmental sustainability. The initiative aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “Clean and Green” agenda for the state.

Mr. Mike Ozoemena, Managing Director of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), officiated the commissioning on behalf of Governor Soludo. He praised the LGA Chairman, Hon. Anthony Nweze Nworah, for his innovation in simultaneously employing and equipping 100 agents.

Ozoemena described the initiative as a significant milestone in environmental decentralization, allowing local governments greater control over environmental management and ensuring effective service delivery.

Hon. Nworah congratulated the newly commissioned workers and emphasized their vital role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, announcing that it was just the first phase, with 100 more agents to be recruited by February 2026, urging workers to take their duties seriously.

Governor Soludo’s Special Assistant on Environment, Mr. Obi Okoye, advised the agents to be safety-conscious and responsible in carrying out their tasks.

The Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Ijeoma Ejeagwu, commended the governor’s strides and urged the agents to serve diligently, encouraging them to show appreciation at the upcoming November 8th gubernatorial elections.

Workers expressed their gratitude to Governor Soludo and the local government, with Mrs. Ngozi Obodoechi vowing to justify the trust placed in them.

This development is expected to significantly improve environmental cleanliness, create jobs, and support sustainable growth in Onitsha North LGA.
