The Deputy Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and the Chairman Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Benjamin Okeji has called on the Nigerian government not to take for granted, the vast human potentials in the country.
Igwe Okeji in a press statement in Awka on this year’s world population day, appreciated the population density in the country with diverse cultures which should be properly harnessed to enhance the nation’s development.
The royal father who is the Traditional Ruler of Omasi lamented that over 95 % of Nigerians are living under poverty level while the remaining are swimming in the ocean of economic prosperity.
He called for a proper demographic survey in the country which will accommodate all indices of development for enhanced national growth.
He regretted that census exercises conducted in Nigeria in some past decades which could have provided accurate data for the country, were marred with irregularities.
Igwe Okeji urged that future census exercises in Nigeria should be taken with all seriousness to achieve the desired results.
He noted that the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in the state and others in the country present opportunities to get accurate information to assist in the state’s demographic survey and beyond.
He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo whose administration is addressing the needs of majority of Anambra residents.
