The Omambala Union has taken delivery of a 5,000KVA transformer donated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to support the Lower Anambra Irrigation Project at Ifite-Ogwari in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra.
The immediate past National Chairman of the union, Dr Chike Obidigbo, disclosed this during the handover of the union’s leadership to the Acting National Chairman, Chief Sunny Eluemuno, at the Umueri Recreational Centre, Otuocha, in Anambra East Local Government Area on July 23
Obidigbo, who voluntarily resigned as national chairman, said the transformer was secured following the union’s appeal to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to support the irrigation project.
He appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to facilitate the installation and commissioning of the transformer, saying the intervention would strengthen irrigation farming and enhance agricultural productivity in Anambra and neighbouring states.
In his acceptance speech, Eluemuno commended the achievements of the outgoing executive, describing Obidigbo’s tenure as remarkable. He pledged to consolidate on the gains recorded by the previous administration with the support of members of the union.
Earlier, the Traditional Ruler of Ukwala, Igwe Joseph Azodo, prayed for peace, unity, progress and prosperity in the Omabala region while breaking the kola nut. He said the outgoing chairman had fostered unity and cooperation among the people through his leadership.
Also speaking, stakeholders of the union, Chief Godwin Onyeka and Chief Ben Obidigbo, said the outgoing administration had repositioned the union and restored confidence in its activities.
The event was attended by a former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chief Okwuchukwu Ezeaku (Ide Ukpo), and featured the formal handover of the union’s documents and other official materials to the new leadership.
