Residents of Omagba Phase II Community in Anambra State on July 4, participated in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in compliance with the directive of the Anambra State Government, with community leaders commending the level of turnout and adherence.

The exercise, which held between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., focused on environmental cleaning and drainage de-silting as part of ongoing efforts to prevent flooding and improve public health across communities in the state.
The President-General of the community, Sir Okey Mmaduekwe, had earlier issued public announcements urging residents, including households and business owners, to fully participate in the exercise.

Speaking during the exercise, Mmaduekwe described environmental cleanliness as a collective responsibility and called on residents to sustain the practice beyond the monthly sanitation exercise.
“The health and safety of our community depend on a clean environment. I commend residents for complying with the government’s directive and encourage everyone to maintain this spirit of environmental responsibility,” he said.
Community officials were also seen monitoring compliance across major streets, ensuring that drains were cleared and refuse properly disposed of during the exercise.
The sanitation exercise forms part of the ongoing environmental health campaign by the Anambra State Government aimed at promoting hygiene, reducing flood risks through drainage maintenance, and fostering cleaner communities across the state.
