The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye has presented his stewardship record to members of Anambra Patriots as he declared his intention to contest for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okoye made this known during a consultative meeting with stakeholders held at the national secretariat of the group in Awka, themed “My Stewardship.” The lawmaker, who represents Awka South II Constituency used the forum to outline projects executed in his constituency and to seek support to emerge as the flag bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming primaries.

Addressing members of the group, Okoye attributed his achievements to divine grace, noting that his entry into politics was driven by a desire to serve rather than to accumulate wealth. He said he remained committed to accountability and pledged to continue rendering an account of his stewardship if elected to the House of Representatives.
“I am here to present my scorecard and to inform you of my intention to contest for the House of Representatives. I seek your support to emerge as APGA’s candidate, with the assurance that I will deliver as I have done before,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted several projects across communities in Awka South II, including the construction and renovation of schools, provision of healthcare facilities, installation of solar powered street lights and various empowerment programmes. He added that a significant portion of these interventions were personally funded even before his election into the state legislature.
He also listed legislative contributions such as bills co-sponsored and motions moved at the State House of Assembly, which he said have contributed to development in Anambra State.
On his plans for the federal constituency, Okoye promised to leverage his experience as a ranking lawmaker to attract more development projects, promote youth engagement and foster unity across Awka North and Awka South. He further proposed the establishment of a “Unity Cup” to promote youth participation through sports.
He urged party members and constituents to support his aspiration in the APGA primaries and cautioned against vote buying, emphasising the need for a collective commitment to good governance.
In their responses, leaders of Anambra Patriots said their focus remains on supporting credible candidates with proven track records.
The National Convener of the group, Architect Okey Ezeobi, said the organisation was committed to promoting good leadership in the state.
“We are not here for mere political activities, we are interested in the progress of Anambra and the emergence of capable leaders,” he said.
Similarly, the National Chairman of the group, Ozo Ejiamatu Damian Enekwechi, described Anambra Patriots as an independent body driven by the principles of accountability and good governance. He noted that the group reserves the right to support candidates it considers suitable and urged aspirants to prioritise service over personal gain.
Enekwenchi added that members present at the meeting represented various communities across Awka North and Awka South, stressing the importance of informed decision making by constituents.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator for Awka Constituency I, Mr. Charles Nweke, described the Deputy Speaker as a trusted and accountable representative, expressing confidence in his ability to perform at the federal level.
The Coordinator for Awka South II Constituency, Mr. Uche Nwocha, said Okoye’s track record in the constituency demonstrated his capacity to effectively represent the people.
In the same vein, the State Coordinator for Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. Okoye Samuel, commended the lawmaker’s projects in the area, noting that his performance had been visible and impactful.
