The Supervisory Councillor for Education, Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mrs. Ijeoma Okafor, has called for stronger cooperation between teachers and parents to improve children’s education and moral upbringing.
Okafor made the call on Oct. 29 at a Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting at Woliwo Primary School, Onitsha, where the PTA Chairman, Hon. Cosmos Nwugo, invited her to address the parents.
She urged parents to comply with the school’s rules and regulations and show respect for the headmistress and teachers, noting that mutual understanding and cooperation between parents and school authorities were necessary for a conducive learning environment.
Okafor commended the teachers for their dedication to educating the pupils and their contributions to the moral upbringing of children in collaboration with families and religious institutions.

She urged the teachers to discharge their duties with the fear of God, uphold good moral values and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility in their professional conduct.
According to her, the proper education and upbringing of children require the joint efforts of parents and teachers, as neither party can achieve the desired results independently.
She appealed to the headmistress, teachers and parents to work together to promote the academic performance, moral development and overall well being of the pupils.
The Supervisory Councillor also sensitised the parents and teachers on the benefits of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), explaining that the scheme was designed to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare while reducing the financial burden of medical expenses.
She encouraged them to familiarise themselves with the scheme and take advantage of its benefits to safeguard their health and that of their families.
