As the month of October glides in, a month declared as a Breast Cancer Awareness Month World-wide, the Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has canvassed for routine self examination and routine visit to hospitals.
In a statement dished out to the public by the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo group, a pet project of Mrs. Soludo for the creation of awareness towards the prevention of the scourge, the governor’s wife said:
“This is an important period that has been dedicated to advancing education and spreading deeper awareness on breast cancer and its threats and prevention.
“Beyond the periodic commemoration, it’s important that we acknowledge the real threat that breast cancer presents to our generation.
“The number of women — our mothers, wives, friends, and relatives — who die each year as a result of this dangerous sickness should remind us that we’re dealing with a generational threat.
“The statistics are scary but we can do our best part to mitigate the ravage. The two primary steps are for everyone to learn how to do self examination routinely and go for routine checks in good hospitals.”
According to her, early detection remains the key to treatment and mitigation of breast cancer. We need to do more, as concerned stakeholders, to drive the awareness and campaigns on not just breast cancer but every type of cancer to every corner of our communities.
“This deadly disease has stolen greatly and is still stealing from us. Let’s do the best we can to fight it to a standstill. Please, help spread the awareness this October and beyond”.
The release also urged those likely to be affected by this disease – the women to, “always remember, that living a healthy lifestyle significantly reduces cancer risk”.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed in October each year. It is aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection through screening, and support to those affected by the disease.
The third week of October is often designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Week in various countries, focusing on education, fundraising, and community events to support breast cancer research and treatment initiatives.
These observances encourage discussions about breast health, preventive measures, and the importance of regular screenings, such as mammograms.
