Canadian-based pharmacist and illustrious son of Obosi, Anambra State, Pharm. Obinna Egbuonye, has advised fathers to lead exemplary lives in order to positively influence their children.
Speaking on the occasion of Father’s Day, Egbuonye, whose passion is the revival of the Obosi dialect of the Igbo language, said good fathers are known for their integrity, responsibility, compassion, and commitment to their families and communities.
According to him, fathers should serve as providers, protectors, teachers, mentors, and moral examples within their homes.
Also speaking, a Professor of Medicine at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi State, Prof. Nnamdi Onyire, said fatherhood goes beyond biological parenthood.
He noted that a true father is one who accepts the responsibility of loving, protecting, providing for, and raising a child. He added that father figures can include biological fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, older brothers, teachers, and mentors who consistently support and guide children.
Onyire, who chairs the Obosi Development Union (ODU) Health Committee, disclosed that he enjoys a close relationship with his children, who freely confide in him.
“I am the one they run to for stories and jokes, the one who helps them solve difficult problems, celebrates their successes, and stands by them when they fail,” he said.
The two speakers emphasized that fatherhood is a rewarding responsibility that requires dedication, urging fathers to be moral anchors and positive role models for their children.
