The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Tochukwu Obodogha, has hailed and awarded a distinction to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his overall service delivery during his first term.
In a press statement issued in Awka, Mr. Obodogha assessed the governor’s performance in office and shared expectations for the upcoming second term.
He noted that the state Chief Executive performed excellently across all sectors of the economy in the three senatorial zones of Anambra State, particularly in infrastructural development.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the governor has also made commendable efforts in improving the security network of the state, by introducing the Agunechemba security initiative and other security agencies, and at the same time, providing security vehicles to various security agencies operating in the state.
Mr. Obodogha further observed that the administration has made notable progress in addressing some ecological challenges in the state and stressed that the magnitude of erosion in the state requires assistance from the Federal Government and international donor agencies.
He noted that there are over 1000 active erosion sites across the state and about 160 communities out of the 179 communities in the state are affected.
Mr. Obodogha commended the governor for restoring economic activities by taking decisive steps that effectively abolished the Sit-at-Home order, thereby enabling residents to resume their normal businesses and economic activities.
Speaking on waste management, he explained that the State government through the Ministry of Environment, has taken several steps toward implementing the Circular Economy in the state through the launching of All Anambra Communities Plastic Waste Recovery Challenge 1.0 and 2.0, which took place on June 6, 2023 and June 27, 2024 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary urged residents in the state to key into the vision of the present administration which prioritizes environmental sustainability as one of its major development pillars.
Mr. Obodogha further advised the citizenry to dispose their refuse properly, and to separate biodegradable waste from non-biodegradable materials to facilitate efficient recycling.
He also educated the public on the importance of maintaining daily sanitation practices to keep the state clean and environmentally safe.
Assessing the governor’s development impact in his hometown Nnewi, Mr. Obodogha said that the administration has executed several projects, including the dualization of the Agulu–Nnobi–Nnewi–Ozubulu–Okija Road, the asphalting of the Igwe Kenneth Orizu Road, Bank Road, and Okpuneze Road, as well as the ongoing construction work on Adili Road.
He said that as the governor prepares to be sworn in for a second term in office on March 17, Ndi Anambra should continue supporting the administration in order to ensure a successful and impactful second tenure.
