Anambra West Local Government Area has entered a new phase of grassroots administration as Hon. Dr. Anthony Obierike assumed office as Mayor, pledging accountable, transparent and fair leadership.
Obierike was sworn in on October 3 alongside 20 other Local Government Area Mayors by the Anambra State House of Assembly at an inauguration attended by government officials, political leaders and stakeholders.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, the new Mayor expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading Anambra West.
He also thanked Ndi Anambra West for giving him the opportunity to serve, describing the mandate as a privilege and a call to greater responsibility.
Obierike pledged to make transparency, accountability and fairness the guiding principles of his administration, while aligning his programmes with the development objectives of the Soludo administration’s Agenda.
The Mayor drew attention to his previous tenure as Transition Committee Chairman, saying his past performance remained a basis upon which residents could assess his commitment to public service.
“My past records, when I was the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, will speak for me,” he said.
The Mayor further promised an aggressive infrastructural development programme, describing his vision as a massive drive that would deliver an unprecedented facelift across the local government area.
“We did it before and we will do it again,” Obierike assured, while calling for the cooperation of community leaders and ndi Anambra West to achieve sustainable development.
The inauguration of the 21 council mayors was expected to strengthen grassroots governance in Anambra, with the councils playing a greater role in implementing the state government’s development agenda.
