The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called for safer and more peaceful communities where children and young people can grow, learn and thrive without fear.
Dr. Soludo made the call in a message on Friday, Oct. 2, to commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence, observed annually on Oct. 2 in honour of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.
In the message, shared through her Healthy Living platform, Dr. Soludo urged individuals and communities to promote kindness, dialogue, understanding and mutual respect as practical ways of preventing violence and strengthening peaceful coexistence.
She emphasised that children and young people need supportive environments where they feel safe, valued and protected, stressing that building such communities requires responsibility from individuals, families and the wider society.
“Let us build communities where every child and young person feels safe, loved and protected,” she said.
Dr. Soludo noted that peaceful communities are built through everyday choices and actions, urging residents to reject violence and embrace values that promote understanding, safety and respect for one another.
The United Nations marks the International Day of Non-Violence to promote non-violence through education and public awareness, while encouraging peace, tolerance and understanding.
Dr. Soludo’s message reinforces the importance of dialogue and peaceful engagement in creating communities where children and young people can develop with confidence and a sense of security.
