The Waste Management Team of Nnewi North Local Government Area has sensitised residents on proper waste disposal and other environmental practices to curb indiscriminate dumping in the area.
The team carried out the awareness campaign on Sept. 24 warning residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, open urination and disposal of waste in drainages and waterways, particularly during rainfall.
It also cautioned residents against dropping waste on the medians of dual carriage roads.
The team warned that defaulters would face prosecution in accordance with extant environmental laws.
The exercise followed concerns raised on Sept. 23 over environmental infractions in the area.
The team urged residents to maintain proper waste disposal practices and comply with environmental regulations to keep the area clean and prevent blockage of drainage channels.
