Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has granted bail to a Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya”.
The bail was granted on June 19 by Justice Jude Obiora who imposed stringent conditions to ensure the defendant’s appearance throughout the trial.
Among the conditions attached to the bail is the requirement that the accused must deposit the title documents of his residential property with the court and will be forfeited should he fail to appear for trial or violate any of the bail conditions.
Justice Obiora also ordered the defendant to refrain from granting interviews or speaking to the press for the duration of the trial.
Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, one of the defence counsel, Kingsley Awuka, described the bail granted to his client as gracious and well-deserved.
Awuka expressed confidence that the defendant would meet all the bail conditions and stated his belief that justice would prevail as the case progresses.
The prosecuti
on is being led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN.
Ezenagu is standing trial over allegations bordering on violations of the provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to a later date for the continuation of trial, as both the prosecution and defence prepare to present their cases before the court.
