The Mayor, Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Ikechukwu Okakpu has on November 5 highlighted major achievements recorded within his first 30 days in office, including the restoration of electricity at the council secretariat after 13 years, commencement of water facility rehabilitation and road projects, as well as initiatives to strengthen security across the area.
Hon. Okakpu, who assumed office on October 3, alongside his Deputy, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile said the achievements reflected his administration’s commitment to good governance, improved living conditions and the implementation of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Solution Agenda.
The mayor disclosed that electricity had been restored at the Njikoka Local Government Secretariat after 13 years without power, while rehabilitation of pipe-borne water facilities had commenced across the area to improve residents’ access to clean water.

On governance and administration, he said Councillors, Supervisory Councillors and Special Advisers had been appointed and inaugurated to strengthen grassroots representation, improve administration and enhance service delivery.
In the area of environmental sanitation, the administration has engaged over 100 ad-hoc workers to support waste management and maintain cleanliness across communities in Njikoka.
Regarding infrastructure, Hon. Okakpu announced the commencement of a Public-Community-Private Partnership (PCPP) road project covering the Awovu–Osili axis in Enugwu-Ukwu. He added that an assessment of Ezi Norbert Road had also been conducted as part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts.
On security, the mayor said his administration had adopted a zero-tolerance approach to insecurity, with CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations to strengthen surveillance.
He further disclosed that traders and street operators had been engaged as Community Safety Marshals and equipped with walkie-talkies to monitor their surroundings and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
While acknowledging that more work remained to be done, Hon. Okakpu described the achievements recorded within the first month as a foundation for further development initiatives aimed at building a safer, cleaner and more prosperous Njikoka. He maintained that governance should be measured by problems identified, solutions implemented and lives positively impacted.
The mayor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to sustain the momentum and called on residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to support its collective efforts towards the development of Njikoka Local Government Area.
