Anambra takes delivery of 55 trucks of CACOVID food items

Awka, Aug. 9, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Government has received a total of 55 lorry loads of food items from Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), a private sector-led organisation.

The organisation was established to assist the government in combating the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The food items comprised bags of rice, Noodles -- Indomie, Spaghetti -- Salt and other consumables; they were for distribution to the 181 communities in the state.

Receiving the items at the State Emergency Management Agency Warehouse, in Awka, Gov. Willie Obiano praised the organisation for supporting government efforts in cushioning the effects of Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Gov. Obiano was represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.

The governor thanked the benefactors for choosing Anambra as one of the pilot states for the gesture, saying the items would go a long way in assuaging the sufferings of citizens.

He assured of equitable distribution of the items to the 181 communities in the state, just as he appealed for more items as they would also be extended to non indigenes in the state.

``Thanks for listening to our appeal not to wait for when the entire consignment will be ready, while our people are dying of hunger.

``What you've donated will be distributed equitably to indigenes and non indigenes.’’

Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, who explained that the state would receive 88 trucks of items, said 55 had so far been delivered, remaining 33.

Earlier, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Godwin Emefiele, represented by Divisional Head, Guarantee Trust Bank, Southeast, Mr Chima Azubuike said the gesture was part of the body's Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at ameliorating the hardships being experienced by the masses occasioned by the pandemic.

One of the beneficiaries, Nkiru Okoye was full of gratitude to the benefactor and the state government for the gesture, praying God to bless them immensely.

Present at the event include Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency Chief Paul Odenigbo,  SEMA Executive Director CY Agupugo, Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue. (MOI)
