Vet your structural plan through ACTDA to escape demolition -- Ven Okwuosa urges builders
By Chinelo Ajulufo :
Awka, Sept. 27, 2020 (MOI) Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ven. Amaechi Okwuosa has directed developers in the state to desist from erecting structures without submitting their building plans through the Authority.
``Those who fail to abide by the directive risk, their structures being demolished.’’
Ven. Okwuosa issued this warning while speaking to newsmen at Iyiagu Crescent Close, Awka, during demolition of some illegal structures erected on waterways and on access roads.
``The demolished structures were marked for demolition about two years ago.
``It is the duty of ACTDA to build a cosmopolitan Awka with excellent infrastructures. This is the preferred investment destination in Africa.
``The authority cannot achieve this aim without carrying out building control.
``Our Federal Laws also entail that structures that are close to waterways should have a certain set back because blocking the way will lead to a catastrophic outcome at any given time.’’
Okwuosa, then, urged people of the state to obey the mapped setbacks for building on waterways, under high tension cables and motorways as anybody found wanting in those areas would be made to face the full force of the law.
A resident of the area, Mr Jude Nwofor praised the efforts of the state Government in ensuring that the blocked access roads would be re-opened.
Mr Moses Akunekwu, who owned a structure in that area, said that the re-opened road network would mark up prices of property in the area.
Men of the Nigerian Army, the Civil Defence Corps, the Police and Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) were on hand to provide security during the demolition exercise. (MOI)
