A new chapter in youth-driven community development has begun in Anambra State as the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) formally inaugurated 20 newly elected youth leaders drawn from various communities across the state.
The inauguration ceremony, presided over by the Council President, Comrade Ken Okoli, marked a significant step toward strengthening grassroots leadership and empowering young people to take active roles in governance and community development.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, described the ASTUC Youth Wing as a vital platform for nurturing future leaders. He emphasized that the initiative provides an opportunity for youths to acquire essential leadership skills and knowledge necessary for societal progress.
Dr. Nwankwo reminded the newly inaugurated leaders of their critical role in driving community development and sustaining positive change, noting that leadership demands dedication, integrity, and responsibility. He urged them to uphold truth, remain focused on their vision, and work collectively in the spirit of unity and selfless service.
In his remarks, the Council President, Ken Okoli, expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for creating opportunities for youth inclusion in the state’s governance structure. According to him, such initiatives have enhanced coordination among young people and fostered unity across communities.
Okoli charged the newly sworn-in leaders to remain committed to serving their peers diligently, adhere strictly to the Council’s guiding principles, and maintain respect for traditional rulers as well as Town Union executives.
Adding his voice, the pioneer President of the Council, Osita Ozalagba, noted that the Youth Wing serves as a strategic platform for grooming responsible and productive citizens. He also highlighted the establishment of the Lady Organisers Unit, explaining that it was designed to amplify the voice of the girl-child and safeguard them against abuse.
The event concluded with renewed optimism that the newly inaugurated leaders will drive meaningful change, foster unity, and contribute significantly to the development of their respective communities and the state at large.
