As part of efforts to reposition Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku, Awka, for improved efficiency and quality healthcare delivery, the hospital’s new Chief Medical Director(CMD), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, has commenced a comprehensive staff auditing exercise.
The ongoing exercise, which began on June 22, is one of the first administrative measures introduced by the new CMD to strengthen workforce management, enhancing accountability, ensuring optimal deployment of personnel across the hospital.
The audit is designed to verify staff records, including the number of employees, their qualifications, job descriptions and departmental postings, helping management identify and address discrepancies in personnel data while ensuring that employees are properly assigned to areas where their services are most needed.
Dr. Umeakuewulu say the exercise will provide an accurate picture of the institution’s human resource capacity, enabling management to make informed decisions on staffing, training, promotions and future recruitment needs.
Beyond personnel verification, the audit is expected to promote greater discipline and accountability by ensuring compliance with workplace regulations, confirming that staff members are effectively carrying out their assigned responsibilities.
The initiative is also aimed at improving service delivery by ensuring that critical departments are adequately staffed with qualified personnel. This, in turn, will contribute to more efficient hospital operations and better patient care.
The staff audit aligns with the healthcare transformation agenda of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, whose administration has continued to prioritize the strengthening of health institutions, improvement of service delivery and enhancement of healthcare outcomes across the state. By ensuring a well managed and accountable workforce, the exercise supports the broader vision of building a functional and responsive healthcare system for Ndi Anambra.
The initiative underscores Dr. Umeakuewulu’s commitment to building a transparent, accountable, and performance driven institution capable of meeting the healthcare needs of residents more effectively, in line with the Soludo administration’s goal of creating a livable and prosperous homeland.
