The newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr. Chizoba Prisca Ezeasor, has commenced a statewide tour of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), reaffirming her commitment to accountability, professionalism and improved healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The tour began on Aug. 21, with a visit to the Enugu-Agidi Ward 1 Primary Healthcare Centre in Njikoka Local Government Area(LGA). Dr. Ezeasor said the exercise was aimed at gaining first hand knowledge of the facilities’ achievements, challenges and areas requiring improvement.

She stressed that regular supervision and engagement with health workers were essential to ensuring that government investments in primary healthcare translated into quality services and better health outcomes for residents.
Dr. Ezeasor commended health workers for their efforts, urging them to uphold professionalism, maintain accurate records and promptly report practices that could compromise service delivery, assuring staff that the agency would work with them to address identified challenges while recognising dedication and excellence.

“We appreciate your hard work. I am here to work with you. I will also recognise and reward hard work because, by the end of the year, we are going to have the best health worker in Anambra State. My visit is to identify the gaps so that we can work together to address them and strengthen primary healthcare,” she said.
The executive secretary emphasised proper documentation, cleanliness and the maintenance of facilities and equipment, urging health workers to take ownership of resources provided by the government.

She noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo had invested significantly in strengthening primary healthcare, calling on health workers to protect and properly utilise medicines, commodities, equipment and other public assets.
“There is a responsibility on all of us to protect, maintain and properly utilise the equipment, commodities and other resources provided to these facilities,” she said.
During the visit, Dr. Ezeasor identified some gaps requiring attention, assuring the facility’s management that the agency would work towards addressing them.
“Moving forward, I have identified some existing gaps at the Enugu-Agidi PHC, and we are going to work on them. It will not be business as usual. There must be professionalism and accountability in everything we do, because our primary responsibility is to provide quality healthcare to the people,” she added.
Responding, the Officer-in-Charge of Enugu-Agidi PHC, Mrs. Beatrice Anuma, appreciated the executive secretary for the visit, commending the state government for its investments in primary healthcare.
Mrs. Anuma assured that the facility’s staff would address the identified gaps, sustain existing improvements and remain committed to providing accessible, quality and people centred healthcare to the community.
The facility tour is part of ASPHCDA’s broader efforts to strengthen supervision, accountability and continuous quality improvement across PHCs in Anambra State.
