The National Association of Students Union (NASU), has commended the Anambra State Government for its ongoing reforms and achievements in the education sector under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The commendation was made during a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the Ministry of Education at the State Secretariat Complex in Awka.

Receiving the delegation, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, urged the student body to uphold the core values of the Union and use its strength in numbers to drive positive societal change. She expressed concern over the growing trend of student unions abandoning their core responsibilities in pursuit of personal or financial gain.

“You are the future of the society. If you trade away your future for temporary comfort, you are robbing the society of its hope,” Commissioner charged.

She emphasized the importance of self-recognition and purpose-driven leadership among student union members, encouraging them to think beyond immediate interests and work toward a brighter future for the nation.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh further advised NASU to reflect on the role it wants to play in shaping the country’s direction and to avoid divisive practices within the union, stressing that with the right focus and unity, NASU holds significant potential to influence national development.

Earlier in his remarks, the NASU National President, Mr. Josiah Peter Oche, praised Governor Soludo for his efforts in transforming the education sector and ensuring that quality education is accessible to all school-aged children in Anambra State.

He highlighted the numerous academic achievements recorded by students in the state as evidence of competent leadership in the education sector. Mr. Oche also commended the Commissioner for Education for effectively implementing state education policies and ensuring that reforms are yielding results.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of an award to Prof. Chuma-Udeh in recognition of her outstanding humanitarian services, youth and students empowerment, and her contributions to national security.
