The Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) on July 31 held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Voices Unchained Trafficking Survivor Initiative to explore areas of collaboration aimed at combating human trafficking and promoting safe and regular migration in Nigeria.
The meeting, held at the NACTAL National Secretariat in Abuja, focused on strengthening the participation of trafficking survivors in advocacy, prevention and response initiatives, recognising the critical role of lived experiences in shaping effective anti-trafficking interventions.

Receiving the delegation, NACTAL National Secretary and Head of Programmes, Osita Osemene, presented an overview of the network’s mandate, organisational structure and ongoing initiatives. He highlighted NACTAL’s commitment to enhancing the involvement of trafficking survivors in the formulation of policies and implementation of programmes designed to address human trafficking.

Representatives of the Voices Unchained Trafficking Survivor Initiative, a survivor-led organisation, stated that the organisation is committed to promoting safe and regular migration, raising public awareness of the dangers associated with human trafficking, facilitating the reintegration of returned survivors, and empowering trafficking survivors through advocacy, rehabilitation and community engagement programmes.
The representatives noted that integrating the experiences and perspectives of trafficking survivors into public awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives would strengthen prevention efforts, improve victim support mechanisms and contribute to more effective anti-trafficking responses.
Osemene reaffirmed NACTAL’s commitment to supporting the institutional development of the survivor-led organisation through mentorship and capacity-building initiatives. He emphasised the importance of strong leadership, sound institutional structures and strategic partnerships in ensuring the organisation’s long-term sustainability and operational effectiveness.
Both organisations agreed to sustain dialogue and deepen collaboration in support of survivor-led initiatives, with a shared commitment to strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking and promote safe and regular migration across Nigeria.
