The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Hon. Ossy Onuko, has inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Amaku Road, Awka, assuring residents of quality work and timely completion.
Onuko carried out the inspection on November 4, as part of ACTDA’s routine project monitoring aimed at ensuring compliance with construction standards and delivery schedules.

Amaku Road is a major access route in Awka, providing direct connectivity to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku. The road serves thousands of patients, medical personnel, visitors, residents and business operators.
For years, motorists and residents have endured difficulties navigating deteriorated sections of the road, particularly during the rainy season, when movement became challenging and access to the teaching hospital was affected.
Speaking during the inspection, Onuko said the Soludo administration remained committed to transforming Awka into a befitting State capital through sustainable infrastructure, quality road networks and effective drainage systems.
He urged the contractor handling the project to maintain high construction standards, stressing that proper drainage must be prioritised to prevent flooding, erosion and premature deterioration of the road.
The ACTDA boss walked through the project site, assessing the various stages of construction, including earthworks, drainage installation, base-course preparation and asphalt laying. He was accompanied by engineers, ACTDA officials and construction workers.
Some residents and motorists who spoke during the inspection expressed satisfaction with the reconstruction, noting that the completed road would significantly improve access to the teaching hospital, ease transportation and stimulate commercial activities within the area.
The reconstruction forms part of the ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development initiatives of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration, aimed at building a livable, prosperous and well-organised Anambra State.
ACTDA has continued to monitor and implement infrastructure interventions across Awka, focusing on improved road connectivity, orderly urban development and the protection of public infrastructure.
Onuko reassured residents that the authority would sustain its monitoring efforts to ensure that ongoing projects were properly executed and completed, adding that ACTDA remained committed to improving the quality of infrastructure across the capital territory.
He also appealed to residents to take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure by keeping drainage channels free of refuse and avoiding activities that obstruct water flow, warning that indiscriminate waste disposal contributes to flooding and road deterioration.
He emphasised that sustainable urban development requires cooperation between government and residents, noting that public infrastructure must be protected to serve present and future generations.
