The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Rome Ibekwe, on July 5 attended the official flag-off ceremony of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Awka Diocese, ahead of its annual August meeting themed, “Pure Love in Action.”

Hon. Ibekwe participated in the event in his dual capacity as the Mayor of Anaocha LGA and as a representative of the Anambra Central Senatorial candidate, Rt. Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo (Onye Ndozi, Nwachinemeluihe Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri; Osinachi).

Addressing Catholic women drawn from parishes across the diocese, the mayor underscored the importance of raising children with strong Christian values, sound moral principles, unwavering faith and a vibrant prayer life, noting that the greatest legacy parents can leave behind is not material wealth but children of good character who are firmly rooted in their faith.

He urged mothers to remain committed to their role as the primary educators of the faith, encouraging them to nurture their children in accordance with authentic Catholic teachings, stressing the importance of maintaining close contact with children in higher institutions through regular communication and visits to provide continuous guidance and support.

Hon. Ibekwe encouraged the women to entrust their families to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, describing her humility, obedience and steadfast faith as enduring virtues that every christian family should emulate.

The event attracted the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, members of the clergy and Catholic faithful from across the diocese. It was widely described as spiritually enriching and inspiring.

The mayor commended the dedication and contributions of catholic women to the growth of the church and society, urging them to remain steadfast in their mission of building godly homes, strengthening family values and contributing to a more peaceful and prosperous society.
