The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has lauded the Chike Ibegbu Foundation for its commitment to promoting education through its long vacation free lessons program. The closing ceremony of the initiative was held at New Bethel Primary School, Onitsha, where pupils, parents, and dignitaries gathered to mark the end of the academic exercise.

Addressing the students, Mayor Nwora, who said that he had spent over 18 years as a teacher with a passion for children with special needs, expressed admiration for the dedication of the teachers who made the program possible. Describing teaching as “a divine calling that demands patience and perseverance,” he commended their service in shaping young minds.

He encouraged the students, whom he described as “the future,” to remain focused and determined, noting that education remains a sure pathway to success. In further support, he pledged to offset the WASSCE fees of all SS3 students and also made a financial donation to sustain the program.

Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included Sir Okwy Maduekwe, Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Onitsha North; Hon. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, Member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency; Hon. Chiejina Obieze, SSA on Security to Governor Soludo; Hon. Engr. Patrick Egwuatu, former APGA aspirant; Hon. Ngozi Ezediniru, Supervisory Councillor on Environment; and Hon. Ikem Nzekwe, Deputy Chairman of APGA Onitsha North, among others.

The convener, Hon. Chike Ibegbu, expressed gratitude to God for the success of the program, recalling the legacy of his late father, Kpajie Ibegbu SAN, who performed the traditional breaking of kolanuts at the event. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that children from less privileged backgrounds are not left out in the pursuit of quality education.
