The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, (NAWO), Anambra Chapter, has appealed to the Head of Service, Ngozi Anuli, to make workers’ welfare more responsive and accessible to civil servants across the state. The appeal was made on Today, May 14, during a courtesy visit by NAWOJ members to the Head of Service in Awka.
Leading the delegation, NAWOJ Chairman, Comrade Ifejirika Tochukwu, congratulated the Head of Service on her appointment and described her as the “mother of all civil servants.” She said the visit was to show solidarity and to commit female journalists and workers into the care of the new Head of Service.
“We are at the vanguard of promoting women and children, and we want to lend our voice to the voice of the people seeking workers’ welfare, please use your good office to make workers’ welfare responsive and accessible for us”.
She also made a special request for the Head of Service to grant Information Officers who are NAWOJ members permission to attend the association’s activities stressing that she advocates dedication to duty and not absenteeism.
“I tell our members to eschew laxity in the discharge of their duties so they are not found wanting under the civil service rules. We urge them to always lead by example as journalists,” she stated.
Reaffirming NAWOJ’s commitment to professionalism, she added that the association will continue to uphold the ethics of journalism and project the positive image of the state government.
“By the ethics of journalism, we promise to always project the good image of the state government as the image makers we are,” Mrs. Ifejirika said.
Responding, the Head of Service thanked NAWOJ for the visit and emphasized the need for factual reporting and discipline in the Civil Service. She urged the journalists to step down the message of punctuality and integrity to their colleagues.
Also speaking, Mrs. Joy Mbachi of the News Agency of Nigeria, ( NAN), appealed to the Head of Service to honor NAWOJ invitations whenever forwarded.
