Lions Clubs International has created a new Region 11 from the former Region 9, with Lion Kenneth Nnamani MJF LNCF emerging as its pioneer Chairperson for the 2026/2027 Lions year. The development was announced on Sept . 25, during the organisation’s regional meeting, which featured the official handover of leadership, the unveiling of the new regional structure and recognition of members for their contributions to humanitarian service.
In her valedictory speech, the outgoing Chairperson of Region 9, Lion Vivian Chioma Agubosim, described her tenure as a tremendous honour and expressed appreciation to members for their unity, commitment and dedication to the organisation. Agubosim said Region 9 implemented several humanitarian initiatives during her tenure, reaching more than 5,000 people across different communities, while clubs continued to grow and remain active despite various challenges.
She highlighted the region’s participation in the 8th Global Course of Lions Clubs International, as well as projects focused on vision, hunger relief, diabetes awareness, childhood cancer, environmental protection, youth development, humanitarian services and disaster relief.
The outgoing chairperson also urged leaders to establish clear channels and norms for transparent communication and respectful interaction among members, noting that such measures would strengthen collaboration, understanding and trust within the organisation.
The newly created Region 11 comprises Awka Smith Land Lions Club, Onitsha Ado Central Lions Club, Neni Centinal Lions Club, Enugu Metropolitan Lions Club and Ebonyi Golden Lions Club, with coverage extending across Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states.
In his acceptance speech, Nnamani described the creation of Region 11 as a historic milestone and an opportunity to deepen the organisation’s impact in communities. He said his administration would be guided by the principles of unity, visibility and synergy, assuring members that his office would work as a partner to clubs and remain open to their concerns, ideas and contributions.
According to him, the administration would prioritise resource sharing, support for clubs, recognition of collective achievements and the empowerment of every club to effectively serve its community. Nnamani added that the new region would focus on membership growth, establishment of new clubs, improvement in the quality of service projects and ensuring that the Lions’ motto, “We Serve,” was reflected in tangible interventions for needy and underprivileged people.
He expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and called on Lions across the region to contribute their ideas, passion and dedication towards building Region 11 into a model of efficiency, brotherhood and transformative service.
The event also featured the official handover of leadership to the new chairperson, presentation of awards to deserving club members and other activities marking the transition.
