Key Plus Pharmacy has urged the public to take malaria seriously, warning that the disease can progress into cerebral malaria, a severe and life-threatening condition that affects the brain if left untreated.

The pharmacy shared the health advisory on its Facebook page on July 3, explaining that cerebral malaria occurs when malaria parasites cause swelling in the brain and obstruct vital blood flow. According to the pharmacy, the condition can lead to permanent brain damage, coma, or even death without prompt medical intervention.

As part of efforts to promote public health awareness, Key Plus Pharmacy encouraged individuals and families to familiarize themselves with the warning signs of cerebral malaria. These include persistent high fever, severe headaches, sudden confusion, seizures, difficulty waking up, and other changes in mental status, all of which require immediate medical attention.

The pharmacy stressed that cerebral malaria is a medical emergency that should never be managed at home, emphasizing that early recognition of symptoms and prompt treatment at a healthcare facility are critical to improving survival and preventing long-term complications.

Key Plus Pharmacy advised the public to adopt preventive measures against malaria, including sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, maintaining clean surroundings to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, using mosquito repellents where necessary, and seeking prompt diagnosis and treatment whenever malaria symptoms develop.

The pharmacy reaffirmed its commitment to promoting health education and preventive healthcare, encouraging the public to remain vigilant against malaria and other preventable diseases.

“Early recognition saves lives. Cerebral malaria is a medical emergency, seek immediate medical care if you notice any warning signs,” the pharmacy advised.
