The Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, has stated that the people of Orumba South are not merely celebrating a system of government on this year’s Democracy Day, but also the enduring spirit of their people; a spirit rooted in resilience, participation, and the collective pursuit of justice, equity, and progress.
In a statement commemorating the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, Hon. Azubuike described democracy as the cornerstone of the people’s shared aspirations, noting that it gives everyone a voice, empowers communities, and provides a platform for shaping the future.
He emphasized that strengthening democracy remains crucial, as sustainable progress within the community depends largely on shared values such as civic participation, unity, and inclusiveness.
According to the Mayor, the anniversary presents an opportunity to assess the nation’s progress, celebrate democratic achievements, and recommit to the principles that sustain democratic governance and national development.
Hon. Azubuike called on the people of Orumba South to embrace collaboration and synergy while focusing on their common goal of advancing the growth and prosperity of the area. He noted that the true strength of democracy lies not only in elections but also in the daily commitment of citizens to accountability, good governance, and active participation in public affairs.
“Let us continue to work together in peace and mutual respect, putting aside our differences and focusing on what unites us: the growth and prosperity of our land,” he said.
The Mayor also extended Democracy Day greetings to the people of Orumba South and Anambra State at large, while offering prayers for continued peace, development, and prosperity across the nation.
He further urged citizens to remain steadfast in defending democratic ideals and to contribute meaningfully toward building a better Orumba South for present and future generations.
