There was jubilation at the Njikoka Local Government Secretariat, Abagana, on October 8, as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Ikechukwu Okakpu (OKD Jnr.), restored electricity to the secretariat after 13 years of total blackout.
The secretariat was disconnected by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in 2013 and had remained without public power supply since then.

The restoration, achieved in less than one week of the new administration, has been described as a sign of purposeful leadership and a new beginning for the council.
Confirming the development, the Chief Administrative Officer of Njikoka LGA, Comrade Ugbe Ikechukwu Obiora, said the achievement reflects renewed hope and commitment to service delivery.
“This is more than the restoration of electricity; it is a clear sign of renewed hope, purposeful leadership, and a commitment to getting things done. In less than one week in office, Mayor Okakpu has taken a bold step towards changing the story of Njikoka LGA,” he stated.
The development sparked excitement among workers who trooped to the Mayor’s office chanting “SOLUTION IS HERE!” to express their gratitude.

Responding, Hon. Okakpu assured staff that the restoration was only the beginning of greater reforms to improve working conditions and service delivery.
He said his administration is aligned with the digital governance vision of the Anambra State Governor.

“We are following the footsteps of our father, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo. He is the digital Governor and he has a representative in Njikoka as a digital Mayor. That is why we shall light up Njikoka as a digital Mayor, and the CCTV cameras are all working,” the Mayor said.
The restoration of power after 13 years has brought renewed confidence among workers and residents, with many describing it as a sign of a new dawn for Njikoka Local Government Area.
