The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, has held a one-day community sensitization programme on Disability Rights and Response Mechanisms in Anambra State at Neni Town Hall, Anaocha LGA.
The programme, held on 27 August, was part of JONAPWD Anambra’s pilot community sensitization project, supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC) II Programme.
The event featured a presentation by Barr. Peter Muoneke, Legal Adviser, JONAPWD Anambra State, on the provisions of the Anambra State Disability Rights Law, 2018, as well as legal counselling for persons with disabilities and a skill exhibition showcasing the abilities of PWDs in Anaocha.

A major highlight was the commitment by Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor (Ike Anaocha), APGA candidate for Anaocha Constituency II, to support persons with disabilities if elected.
His commitments include supporting the amendment of the Disability Rights Law, providing training and grants, including PWDs in his scholarship programme, placing aged PWDs on monthly allowances, promoting inclusive representation, and supporting future disability sensitization programmes in his constituency.
The programme also provided an opportunity for JONAPWD to strengthen engagement with community stakeholders and advocate for greater inclusion, accessibility, dignity and equal participation of persons with disabilities in society.
