The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on Ndi Anambra to work together to rebuild and transform the state, emphasizing values like hard work, integrity, and enterprise. He urged the people to move away from cultism, fetish practices like ‘Oki ite,’ ‘Eze nwanyi,’ and the influence of drug barons.
The appeal was made during the interdenominational thanksgiving service themed, “Leading with Wisdom and Integrity,” held at the International Convention Center (ICC) in Awka on March 15, marking the end of his first term.

He highlighted that Nigeria and Anambra cannot develop unless different denominations see themselves as one body in Christ. “We are all created in the image and likeness of God,” he said, praising the interdenominational choirs, including Catholic, Anglican, and Pentecostal groups for singing together harmoniously.
Expressing gratitude, the Governor thanked God for the gift of life, good health, wisdom, and strength given to him and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim for four years. As he prepares for another four-year term, he prayed for continued health, wisdom, and courage.
He noted that his administration recruits based on values and contributions rather than religious backgrounds. “Over 8,000 teachers were hired based on their competence and dedication, not religious or community influence, because the goal is to ensure our children learn from the best”.
He also appreciated his wife, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for her support and expressed gratitude to all Ndi Anambra for their backing during the election, promising to work tirelessly to make them proud. “Together, let’s make Nigeria and Anambra great again,” he urged.

The Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Dr. Alexander Ibezim, led a prayer for wisdom upon the Governor, quoting 2 Chronicles 1:7-12, and foreseeing that the next four years will be more progressive.
He praised the governor for initiating transformational projects that have elevated the state’s image, emphasizing Anambra’s reputation for intellect, integrity, hard work, and academic achievements.
Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), expressed gratitude for Governor Soludo’s first tenure and prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength as he begins his second term, assuring that God will support his efforts.
In his welcome address, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Raphael Azubuike Onyekwelu, the Governor’s chaplain, described the gathering as a solemn thanksgiving, citing Psalm 118:23, “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes,” emphasizing that governance should serve the welfare and justice of the people.”
He reflected on the state’s journey through hope, challenges, and transformation, noting God’s faithfulness during these times. He praised Anambra for its ecumenical spirit and leadership in fostering harmony among faiths, calling Governor Soludo a leader of ecumenical unity.
He prayed for renewed strength, justice, compassion, and peace for the Governor and the state.
Attendees included former Governor Dr. Chris Ngige, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze.
