The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Re-Orientation, Dr. Law Mefor, has urged staff of the Ministry of Information to become emotionally attached to their duties in order to leave lasting legacies in service.
Dr. Mefor made the call during his first official meeting with staff of the ministry following his inauguration as Commissioner for Information on May 19.
Speaking at the meeting, the commissioner stressed the importance of commitment and passion in public service, noting that civil servants should strive to make meaningful impacts in their various offices.
According to him, Civil servants should be emotionally attached to their work so that when they retire, their footprints will remain stamped.
He encouraged workers to be passion-driven in their areas of specialization and to develop blueprints capable of positively impacting society.
Dr. Mefor also unveiled a five-point agenda for the ministry and constituted various teams to drive the initiatives. The teams include the Solution Bulletin Team; Ask the Commissioner; Radio Programme Team; Blueprint on Anambra Ethical and Moral Revolution and Rebirth Team; Think Tank/Research Team, and the Reportting on the Reporters Unit.
The commissioner further assured staff that the ministry would be fully digitized, with adequate equipment and regular training to enhance productivity. He also advised information officers to embrace real-time reportage in line with modern communication practices.
He urged staff members to explore partnerships and sponsorship opportunities that could support some of the ministry’s needs.
Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. Oby Uchebo, expressed delight over the commissioner’s return.
She gave an overview of activities carried out during his absence, highlighting improvements in news writing, reportage, and content creation by information officers.
Pharm. Uchebo also emphasized the need to revitalize all departments within the ministry for improved productivity and rehabilitation.
Also speaking, Mr. Shedrack Nnanna of the Film Department called for the digitization of the department, noting that documentary production and censorship activities could serve as revenue-generating avenues for the government.
In his remarks, the Director of Information, Emmanuel .U. Emmanuel, described the commissioner’s return as divine and purposeful, stressing the need for adequate data provision for editors to ensure timely dissemination of news.
The meeting also featured questions, suggestions, and recommendations from staff members, as well as a closing prayer.
