The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Nnewi North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly election, Dr. Chukwuebuka Ileka, has called for greater representation of women in decision making and community leadership.
Dr. Ileka made the call on Oct. 12, while attending the 2026 Nzuko Ora Nnewi Women Summit in Nnewi, Anambra State.
He described women as vital partners in family welfare, economic growth and community development, noting that sustainable progress requires their active participation in leadership and governance.
According to him, women have continued to demonstrate resilience, wisdom and dedication in managing families, sustaining commercial activities and contributing to the development of their communities, stressing that their contributions should be matched with greater opportunities to influence decisions that affect their lives and society.
Dr. Ileka pledged that, if elected, he would promote inclusive representation and support initiatives focused on women’s empowerment, assistance for women traders and cooperatives, improved healthcare for women and children, and access to quality education for the girl child.
He commended the organisers of the Nzuko Ora Nnewi Women Summit for creating a platform for women to express their views, discuss shared challenges and contribute to strategies for inclusive community development.
The APGA candidate reaffirmed his commitment to sponsoring and supporting legislation that protects women’s rights, expands their opportunities and encourages their meaningful participation in governance.
He noted that empowering women to contribute to public decisions is essential to building stronger communities and achieving sustainable development across Nnewi and Anambra State.
