‎The Anambra State Head of Service, Barr. Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, on Friday June 5, conducted an unscheduled inspection of ministries at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka, to enforce Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive relocating burial ceremonies and condolence visits from Fridays to Saturdays. The monitoring exercise covered the Ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Education, Justice, and the Office of the Head of Service.
‎
‎Addressing staff members present at their duty posts, Barr. Iwouno emphasized that Fridays should no longer be used for attending burial ceremonies or paying condolence visits during official working hours.
‎
‎She admonished civil servants against locking their offices and abandoning their official responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of strict compliance with workplace obligations and the maintenance of high standards of service delivery.
‎
‎The Head of Service warned that any officer found in violation of the directive would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Rules.
‎In her words, “I am using this exercise as a wake-up call to all civil servants in the state that there will be no more burial ceremonies or condolence visits on Fridays. Civil servants must remain in their offices to serve Ndi Anambra from Monday to Friday.”
‎
‎Barr. Iwouno commended staff present at their duty posts and urged them to sustain the level of commitment, noting that they represent the face of the “New Anambra State Public Service” and must take their duties seriously.
‎
‎The governor’s directive, coupled with the Head of Service’s monitoring tour, underscores the administration’s renewed commitment to enhancing productivity, strengthening accountability, and restoring discipline within the Anambra State Public Service.
