Governor Chukwuma Soludo yesterday May 18, 2026, swore in Barrister Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu as the pioneer Commissioner for the newly established Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The ceremony took place at the Lighthouse, Awka, and marks a key step in the administration’s push to strengthen regulatory oversight and accelerate urban renewal across Anambra State.
A legal practitioner from Obuno Umudim, Nnewi, Barr. Ojukwu is a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009. He has built a career in corporate and commercial law with notable expertise in real estate advisory and high-value property transactions, earning a reputation for handling complex property deals.
Beyond real estate, he has provided legal services in the entertainment sector to high-profile personalities, including reality TV stars Mercy Eke and Dorothy Bachor.
Before the creation of the ministry, Physical Planning and Urban Development functions in the state were managed by the Anambra State Physical Planning Board under a managing director. The elevation to a full ministry signals a strategic shift by the Soludo administration toward more coordinated infrastructure development, stricter compliance with planning regulations, and sustainable city growth.
The move is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at modernizing the state’s cities, improving infrastructure coordination, and aligning Anambra’s planning and environmental management with global standards. With his blend of legal knowledge and real estate experience, Barr. Ojukwu is viewed by observers as well positioned to lead the ministry’s transformation efforts.
Stakeholders believe his appointment could mark a turning point for Anambra’s urban development as the state moves to upgrade planning systems and manage urban growth more orderly.
