Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on July 18 joined leaders and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to celebrate the 70th birthday of the party’s former National Chairman, Chief Victor Ike Oye, at a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Anambra State Lighthouse, Awka.

Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo described the celebrant as a man of integrity, a dependable leader, a devoted family man and a committed party builder whose contributions have strengthened APGA over the years.

Quoting Genesis 6:3, the Governor prayed for God’s continued blessings of good health, wisdom and long life upon Chief Oye, encouraging people to honour and appreciate loved ones while they are alive rather than waiting until after their death.

Reflecting on Oye’s tenure as national chairman of APGA, Governor Soludo commended his resilience in steering the party through difficult periods, including numerous legal disputes.

“You served APGA well, and the party has continued to grow stronger. It remains Nigeria’s oldest progressive party. For the good of the nation, progressive minded leaders must continue to work together, and today we celebrate your enduring legacy,” the governor said.

Governor Soludo announced plans to visit Amawbia to commission roads in honour of the former APGA national chairman.

Earlier, the National Chairman of APGA, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, appreciated the Governor for organising the celebration in recognition of Chief Oye’s contributions to the party.

He prayed for God’s continued grace, good health and strength for the celebrant, acknowledging his role in promoting peace and stability within APGA.

“God used you to bring solutions to Anambra State and peace to our party,” Ezeokenwa said.

Responding, Chief Victor Ike Oye expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo, his family, party members and other guests for celebrating the milestone with him.

He expressed confidence in the Governor’s leadership, saying APGA remains committed to supporting the continued development of Anambra State.
