Three seasoned medical experts have been tapped to lead Anambra’s health sector as Governor Chukwuma Soludo moves to deepen reforms in healthcare delivery.

The appointments, which took immediate effect, were announced on Thursday in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime.

Dr. Ezeaka Augustine Uwaeme will serve as Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, (ASHIA). Dr. Obianuju Chinelo Okoye is the new Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, while Dr. Hillary Nkem Okeke takes charge as Executive Director, State AIDS Control Agency.

Dr. Uwaeme, with over 22 years in Medicine and Surgery, has advanced ultrasound training from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, and the Jefferson Ultrasound Radiology and Education Institute, New Delhi. He also trained at the National Post-Graduate Medical College of Nigeria and the University of Ilorin. His background blends clinical expertise, administrative competence, and entrepreneurial vision.

Dr. Okoye brings 20 years of experience across hospitals and public health. An MBBS graduate of Ebonyi State University, she holds a Master’s in Public Health and a Diploma in Family Medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. She is noted for her administrative skills, training capacity, and wide clinical practice, with several conference papers to her credit.

Dr. Okeke is an award-winning medical expert and lecturer whose research interests cover epidemiology, global health management, and community care. A graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with a Master’s in Public Health, he belongs to several professional bodies and has presented extensively at conferences and seminars.

The government says the appointees, with their diverse top-notch skills and rich clinical experiences are expected to elevate healthcare delivery in the state.

Their mandate aligns with the Soludo administration’s health agenda expanding primary healthcare, deepening health insurance coverage, and strengthening disease control.
