In a bid to regulate the Energy Sector and Electricity business in Anambra State, First Power Electricity Distribution Company(FPEDC) a daughter Company to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has received an Interim Licence from Anambra State Regulatory Commission (ASERC)in order to legalise their operations in the State in line with the provisions of the Law.
Receiving the Licence, the Chairman/CEO, First Power Electricity Distribution Company (FPEDC), Mr Okechukwu Okafor, who described the event as a landmark achievement, stated that FPED Company came to make their presence known as regards energy distribution in Anambra State.
According to him, he mentioned that the Company will work with various industrial groups, as they want people to know that all their activities are geared towards having a better solution for Ndi Anambra.
“We’re committed to seeing changes in the industry, we want to change the narratives people have about power, and so we are focused on making our customers happy through steady power,” Mr Okafor added.

In a remark, the Chairman/CEO, Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission(ASERC), Prof Frank Okafor noted that the State Government, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo inaugurated five distinguished Professionals as Commissioners to midwife the ASERC, which after the inauguration, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission(NERC) issued an order of transfer of regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Anambra State, from NERC to ASERC.
Prof Okafor emphasized that ASERC after due consideration passed a resolution to issue Interim Licence to Companies licenced by NERC and currently operational in the State, of which one such delicate operator is First Power Electricity Distribution Company.
He assured that moving forward, there will be reasonably uninterrupted power supply within the State.
On his part, the GMD of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Engr. Praveen Chorghade represented by Engr. Ernest Mupwaya, noted that EEDC participated in drafting the energy policy, and they are working diligently to roll out their plans, cooperate with various partners and stakeholders so that electricity can be improved in Anambra State in line with the developmental agenda of the State Government.
The MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof Charles O. Ofoegbu, who played host to the event stated that his Company is ready to give all the needed support to achieve its purpose. He reiterated that the State Government is bent on improving the power sector of the State.
In their separate speeches, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor and Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, while commending the State Governor for taking the bold steps in revitalising the Energy Sector, mentioned that Ndi Anambra are full of positive expectations from the Power Distribution Company especially as Yuletide is fast approaching.
