A former member, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ejiofor Egwuatu, has indicated his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Addressing party leaders and members across the two Local Government Areas, Hon. Egwuatu, appealed for their support in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that experienced representation is imperative for the party to recover the constituency seat.
He stated that the legislature demands competence, experience, and sound political acumen, noting that APGA has not held the House of Representatives seat for the constituency since 2011.
Hon. Egwuatu said his aspiration is anchored on the need for unity and strategic leadership within the party, urging stakeholders to support a candidate with the capacity to compete effectively at the national level.
Citing his political record, he referenced his tenure in the Anambra State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011, during which he chaired the House Committee on Information and Reorientation. He also noted prior service as Personal Assistant to the Minority Leader and Special Assistant to the Speaker.
He added that he has participated in election management processes over the years and contributed to recent party victories, including the 2025 bye-election in Onitsha North 1 Constituency. Beyond politics, he cited leadership roles in the Diocese on the Niger Council of Knights, the DMGS Old Boys Association Worldwide, and other civic organisations.
He confirmed that consultations with party stakeholders are ongoing, centred on party ideology and development-driven governance, as he seeks endorsement for the APGA ticket.
