‎The Fegge Community in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State has elected a new executive committee to pilot the affairs of the community for the next four years. The election, held on Sept 7, produced Chief Nnamdi Onugha as the president-elect, alongside other members of the executive.
‎
‎Speaking shortly after his emergence, Onugha said his administration would seek to expand representation by providing room for two additional ex-officio members, stressing that every part of Fegge must be adequately represented in the leadership structure.
‎The President-elect, who said he had lived in Fegge for over 40 years, identified unity, peace and cordial relationships among residents as major priorities of his administration.
‎
‎He noted that divisions and lack of cooperation between residents and community leaders had affected development, stressing that peace and unity were essential for meaningful progress. “On a personal note, I want to bring Fegge together and bring sanity to Fegge because a lot of things are going on, including the activities of cult members and touts. We are going to use our initiatives to ensure these things come to an end,” Onugha said.
‎
‎He also promised to tackle issues affecting residents, including estimated electricity billing, security concerns and the activities of individuals allegedly disconnecting electrical wires and those of condemned iron. He said the administration would consider creating a monitoring group to keep watch over activities within the community during the day when most residents have gone to their businesses.
‎
‎Onugha appealed to residents to give the new executive maximum support, emphasizing that no leadership could succeed without the cooperation of the people. He also expressed his readiness to seek the fatherly advice and support of the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government whenever necessary.
‎
‎Other members of the new executive are Ohamadike Anthony, Vice President; Nwagbo Bonny, Secretary; Ogbonna Emmanuel, Assistant Secretary; Evaristus Ndukwe, Financial Secretary; Echezona Dunu, Publicity Secretary; Leonard Ezimoha, Treasurer; Chiadikobi Dunu, Public Relations Officer; Nnaemeka Ezeabasili, Organising Secretary; Chukwuma Nwokolo, Welfare Secretary; Chidi Ogbuagu, Provost I; Osita Agha, Provost II; and Nonso Asuzu, Provost III.
‎
‎During the swearing-in ceremony officiated by the Council Legal Adviser, Barr. Stanley Okafor, the newly elected executives solemnly swore and affirmed to be faithful, sincere and honest in the discharge of their responsibilities. They pledged to perform their duties in accordance with the community’s constitution and abide by its rules and regulations.
‎
‎In his remarks, Barr. Okafor charged the new executives to discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour and urged them to place the interest of the entire Fegge Community above personal considerations.
