The President of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Nkpor, Mrs. Nnenne Nweke, has described the family as the first place where faith is nurtured, urging mothers to remain steadfast in their responsibility of building spiritually strong homes.
Mrs. Nweke made the call during the pastoral visit of the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, to St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Nkpor.
She encouraged mothers to sustain the tradition of praying the Holy Rosary daily with their families, describing it as a powerful spiritual weapon for overcoming challenges and strengthening family unity.
According to her, the Blessed Virgin Mary continually intercedes for those who seek her help with faith and sincerity, offering hope and strength to families facing life’s difficulties.
Mrs. Nweke advised mothers not to abandon their children when they become stubborn or appear to lose their way. Instead, she urged them to support them with love, prayers, patience and sound counsel.
Drawing inspiration from the life of St. Monica, she recalled how the saint prayed persistently for the conversion of her son, St. Augustine, who later became one of the Church’s greatest saints and doctors of the Church.
She said the example of St. Monica teaches parents never to lose hope, emphasizing that consistent prayers, especially the Rosary, combined with loving guidance, can help lead children back to God.
Mrs. Nweke further encouraged mothers to make prayer a daily family practice, noting that a prayerful home provides spiritual strength and guidance for spouses, children and the entire household.
