The Federal Government has opened a newly constructed 15-kilometre section of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, in a move aimed at reducing road crashes and improving travel convenience, especially during the Easter period.
The newly completed stretch, which became accessible to motorists is part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the vital highway connecting Enugu and Anambra States—one of the busiest transport corridors in Nigeria’s South-East region.
Speaking during the opening ceremony at Ugwuonyeama axis in Enugu State, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the development as a significant milestone in the gederal government’s commitment to safer and more durable road infrastructure
He further explained that the upgraded 15-kilometre stretch has been equipped with modern safety features designed to minimise accidents and enhance traffic flow.
These include improved drainage systems, clear lane markings, standard road signs, reinforced shoulders, solar-powered street lighting, and road beautification elements.
According to the minister, the improvements are expected to significantly ease movement for travelers during these Easter festivities, a period typically marked by increased vehicular traffic
Motorists and residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the ongoing reconstruction will bring lasting relief to commuters and reduce the frequent accidents previously recorded along the route.
