The Medical Director, El-Dorado Multi-Specialist Hospital Awka Professor Chiemelu Emegoakor has appreciated the advances recorded in Anambra State 34 years after its creation.
In a press statement in Awka as the state celebrates its many years of creation, Prof. Emegoakor expressed joy that the state capital Awka hitherto tagged a glorified entity, is now wearing a glorious look with state-of-the-art infrastructure dotting its landscape.
In the health sector, the Medical Director appreciated the establishment of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi campus, the Onitsha Federal Medical Centre, the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Awka and general hospitals in the state which have improved the health care delivery services in the state.
According to him, the present administration has put in place, some reforms in the sector which are noteworthy and moved Anambra to enviable heights.
His expectation is that the state will continue to grow from strength to strength with the state residents contributing their quota towards making the entity a liveable and prosperous homeland.
The Medical Director further asked that the security strategy in the state be re-fortified to ensure development in the state.
He used the forum to announce his itinenary for a medical outreach programme with his US based colleague to assist the less privileged people of the Uke community to access health care delivery free of charge during the coming Yuletide season.
Prof. Emegoakor also felicitated with the traditional ruler of his community, Igwe Surveyor Charles Agballah for his successful new yam festival, and described him as a polished and respected royal father who brought peace to the Uke Community.
In a related development, a celebrated Obstetrician, Gynae Oncologist, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi campus, Associate Prof Osita Umeononihu acknowledged the progressive development recorded by the state since its creation but comparatively being assessed with some of the states created alongside it, has some work to do to catch up with them.
Prof. Umeononihu expressed delight in the quality of leaders and contributions made by some former governors of the state namely Dr. Chris Ngige noted for his quality roads, Mr Peter Obi remembered for empowering the Mission hospitals such as the Iyi Enu Hospital, Ogidi, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Ihiala etc, Chief Willie Obiano celebrated for building an International Airport at Umueri for the state, the International Convention Centre, Awka etc, and Professor Chukwuma Soludo known for giving the state a new government house and governor’s lodge situated in Awka, rehabilitating quality roads in all the 3 Senatorial Zones of the state, making advances in the health sector etc.
The medical expert expressed some reservations over the security situation in the state especially in the recklessness and unprofessional conduct of some unconventional security operatives in the state.
According to him, there is absolute need to use a disciplined and repackaged conventional security operatives to enthrone civility in tackling security matters.
