A fire outbreak on Thursday, April 30, 2026, destroyed part of a residential building at Lomu Village in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, though no lives were lost in the incident.

According to the Anambra State Fire Service, a distress call was received at about 2:48 p.m., prompting an immediate response from firefighters who arrived to find the main building in the family compound of Mr. Patrick Onyeanusi engulfed in flames.

Firefighters swiftly initiated intensive firefighting operations, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and other properties within the compound.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by a power surge linked to an electrical fault.

While the main building suffered significant damage, surrounding structures were preserved due to the timely intervention of emergency responders.

No casualties or injuries were reported.
Firefighting efforts concluded at approximately 4:30 p.m. after the flames were fully extinguished and safety checks conducted.

The Fire Service has urged residents to prioritize electrical safety by avoiding unsafe wiring practices and installing reliable surge protectors and circuit breakers to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
