A former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Ejiofor Egwuatu, has declared his interest in contesting the House of Representatives seat for Onitsha North and Onitsha South Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In a message addressed to party leaders and members in the two local government areas, Egwuatu appealed for support ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for experienced representation to help the party reclaim the constituency seat.
He noted that the legislative arm of government requires competence, experience, and strong political understanding, adding that APGA had not secured the House of Representatives seat in the constituency since 2011.
Egwuatu said his aspiration was driven by the need for unity and strategic leadership within the party, urging stakeholders to rally behind a candidate capable of competing effectively at the national level.
He highlighted his political background, including his tenure in the Anambra State House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011, where he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Reorientation. He also referenced earlier roles as Personal Assistant to the Minority Leader and Special Assistant to the Speaker of the House.
Egwuatu further stated that he has been involved in election management processes over the years and contributed to recent party successes, including the 2025 bye-election in Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
Beyond politics, he listed various community and organisational leadership roles within the Diocese on the Niger Council of Knights, DMGS Old Boys Association Worldwide, and other civic engagements.
He said consultations were ongoing with party stakeholders, focusing on party ideology and development-driven governance as he seeks endorsement for the APGA ticket.
