The Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Revd. Valerian Maduka Okeke, has underscored the vital role of faith and prayer in human life, especially for Christians.
In his Easter message titled “Faith and Prayers: We Move,” the Archbishop described faith as essential to navigating life’s challenges, noting that the Christian journey is fundamentally one of faith.
He defined faith as humanity’s response to God’s self-revelation, offering spiritual insight into life’s ultimate meaning.
Citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Letter to the Hebrews (11:1), he described faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen.”
Reflecting on Nigeria’s current realities—including insecurity, unfulfilled promises, and economic hardship—Archbishop Okeke stressed that faith remains crucial for perseverance and hope.
He encouraged believers to trust in God’s presence and rewards for those who seek Him.
Drawing from biblical examples, he highlighted how faith brought healing and miracles, emphasizing that “faith is a condition for miracles and is nourished by prayer.”
He further urged Christians to combine faith with good works, referencing the teaching that “faith without works is dead” (James 2:17). According to him, genuine faith is expressed through dedication, integrity, and commitment to duty.
The Archbishop concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain steadfast.
