The Department of State Services, DSS, has intensified public awareness against terrorism through its “Unite Against Terror” campaign, urging Nigerians to collectively reject violence and insecurity.
Speaking with journalists at his office in the State Secretariat, Awka, on the 11th of August 2026, The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor commended the DSS initiative, describing it as timely and necessary.
Mefor said Anambra joined other states and countries participating in the campaign, demonstrating collective determination to confront terrorism and promote peace, security, unity, and national stability.
He said the awareness march commenced from the Awka South Local Government premises, proceeded through Eke-Awka, and eventually terminated at the Tower of Light, Awka.
According to him, government officials, organizations, and individuals made strong statements condemning terrorism, while he represented the state government and Ndi Anambra throughout the campaign activities.
Mefor stressed that terrorism should never be mistaken for freedom fighting, insisting that anyone claiming to liberate Anambra cannot achieve such liberation through violence against residents.
He maintained that democracy allows citizens to express dissatisfaction, criticize government, and agitate for change, provided such activities remain peaceful, lawful, responsible, and respectful of others’ rights.
The Commissioner said Governor Chukwuma Soludo supports freedom of expression and constructive agitation, noting that the Governor himself has consistently spoken against injustice and undemocratic practices.
Mefor commended the DSS for organizing the campaign and praised the Anambra Government for participating, stressing that terrorism must be collectively rejected while legitimate democratic expression remains protected.
