‎A road traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday along Park Road, GRA, Onitsha, after a driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a high-tension electricity pole.

‎The incident, which took place at about 1:00 a.m., involved a Toyota Avalon that was said to be travelling at excessive speed before veering off the roadway. An eyewitness at the scene.

‎An eyewitness, Mr. Sunday Ugamma, attributed the crash to over speeding, stating that the driver appeared unable to regain control prior to the collision with the NEPA pole.
‎


‎Police officers who responded to the scene confirmed that no fatalities were recorded. One of the officers, Corporal Luke Osaro, stated that the team responded promptly upon receiving a distress call.
‎
‎In his words, “The driver of the Toyota Avalon lost control of the vehicle and struck a NEPA pole. We are thankful that no lives were lost.” He further noted that although electricity supply was reportedly active at the time of the crash, the swift intervention of power officials prevented further damage or risk to residents.

‎The driver, identified as Mr. Chinedu Eze, was reportedly in a state of shock when approached. Speaking briefly, he expressed difficulty in accounting for the incident. “I am unable to adequately explain what transpired,” he said. “Everything occurred suddenly.”

‎Authorities have reiterated the need for motorists to comply with prescribed speed limits, particularly during night hours, warning that reckless driving continues to pose a significant risk to lives and public infrastructure.
