Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, has reaffirmed its commitment to raising disciplined and visionary leaders with the induction of newly elected prefects and a leadership training programme focused on nation building.

The event, held on June 30, brought together students, teachers and resource persons under the theme, “Youth Leadership and National Development.” It was designed to equip the newly elected student leaders with the knowledge, values and practical skills required for effective leadership, integrity and selfless service.
Speaking during the induction ceremony, the Principal of the school, Rev. Dr. Chiemezie Ogidi, urged the prefects to view leadership as a responsibility rather than a privilege.
He urged them to lead with humility, fairness, accountability and exemplary character, reminding them that their conduct should reflect the core values and reputation of the institution.

Delivering an exhortation, Pastor Paul Moghalu encouraged the students to lead by example through integrity, self-discipline and the fear of God, urging them to remain steadfast and resilient in the face of challenges.
The training featured presentations by experienced resource persons, including Dr. Golibe Ikpeze, who spoke on the role of youth leadership in national development, while Mrs. Ngozi Okafor highlighted teamwork as a key ingredient for effective leadership.
Also speaking, Pastor Jachike Akuchukwu emphasised the importance of fair, firm and constructive discipline, while Mrs. Amaka Ezeokeke underscored effective time management as an essential skill for balancing leadership responsibilities with academic excellence.
Participants described the programme as enlightening and impactful, expressing confidence that it had equipped the newly inducted prefects with the skills and values needed to lead with wisdom, dedication and excellence.
The initiative reflects DMGS’s continued commitment to nurturing responsible young leaders capable of making meaningful contributions to their school, communities and the nation.
