The Diocese on the Niger Women’s Ministry has celebrated Women’s Day at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, with thanksgiving, prayers, and activities highlighting godly womanhood and women’s contributions to the Church, families, and society.

The celebration, held on October 19, 2026, attracted Anglican women from various parishes, archdeaconries, and communities, who gathered in colourful uniforms to celebrate their faith, unity, and sisterhood.

The event featured Holy Communion, a thanksgiving procession, choir ministration, Bible recitation, family discussions, and field displays, while participants expressed gratitude to God for His grace, protection, and blessings.

In her sermon, Dr. Mrs. Elsie Nwokolo, popularly known as Mama Niger, emphasised the importance of virtuous women as role models, prayer warriors, and pillars of the Church and their families.

The guest preacher, Engr. Mrs. Ifeoma Okonkwo, urged women to emulate the virtues of the Virgin Mary and give equal attention to raising boys and girls, stressing the importance of balanced upbringing.

She also encouraged mothers to teach their sons domestic skills, including cooking, to promote self-reliance and ensure that they can take care of themselves rather than depend entirely on others for their daily needs.

Engr. Okonkwo further advised women to remain prayerful, humble, and supportive of their husbands while nurturing their children and promoting peace, unity, discipline, and holiness in their homes and the Church.

The Mothers’ Union members from various archdeaconries added colour to the celebration through their distinctive uniforms, displays of skills, march-past, and thanksgiving dances, demonstrating their commitment to fellowship and the spiritual growth of the Diocese.

The celebration reaffirmed the importance of women in building strong families, strengthening the Church, and contributing to societal development, while offering an opportunity to appreciate their dedication and service.
